Here at The Lo. Co., we make it a point and habit to listen to music throughout the work day that satisfies the entire staff. We are not regularly visited by a Baby Beluga, or whatever it is that Raffi sings. Management is not a big fan of CDs with children singing, so if we play anything specifically geared toward small employees, more than likely it will be sung by an adult, and definitely by a human. That human adult will not be wearing a ridiculous costume or dressed up like a child. Management's teeth itch at the very thought.

So here are some of the things we do listen to, what's been on the office playlist lately:
Paul Simon's Graceland
Putumayo Kids: Sing Along with Putumayo and Animal Playground
Jack Johnson's Sleep Through the Static and the Curious George Soundtrack
Matt Costa's Unfamiliar Faces

All of what we play is, in one way or another, pleasant to listen to and just plain fun. Management feels this sort of music increases productivity and overall work satisfaction for the entire company, enriches the employee training experience and yet leaves Management without a headache. It's a win-win for all involved.

In the interest of exchanging ideas and improving productivity in all of our companies, I invite you to share in the comments section what sort of music your own company prefers. Or better yet, what you listened to as a young employee in training. I personally listened to a lot of Barry Manilow and John Denver, and my employees love it. Yes, both of them.

AS a kid? John Denver. Anne Murray. Roger Whittaker. Eddie Grant? That song, Electric Avenue-- I remember my mom cranking that one up and dancing next to the Dodge Caravan. Janis Joplin. Stevie Wonder. James Taylor. Woody Guthrie...

Hmmm... Country is usually the music of choice at my company. Shocking, I know. :)

One type of music that I have put on the office playlist is marching band. I got a CD of the KSU Marching Band and Ella really likes to dance to the fight songs. When we go to any games she instantly recognizes the songs and claps along! (I feel like a monster dork for admitting that in a public place. Oh geez.)

I remember listening to the Oakridge Boys, Alabama and Kenny Rogers. We were quite the country household. And also, "I Just Called to Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder. My mom loved that song.

I wore out the Greatest American Hero theme song too - we had it on a 45!! Wow. I am old. I must go lay down and think about my oldness.

MY NOW 12 YEAR OLD MALE EMPLOYEE LOVED SHOW TUNES, ESPECIALLY THE SOUND OF MUSIC AND MARY POPPINS. ALSO WAS A BIG FAN OF MUSIC FROM DISNEY MOVIES AND REGGAE.
NOW HE THINKS HE DISCOVERED CLASSIC ROCK AND CAN'T BELIEVE THE MANAGER CAN SING ALONG WITH GUITAR HERO!!!

John Denver for me, too. And Billy Joel and Dolly Parton. I really loved those Disney records, too -- Splashdance, Mickey Mouse Disco.

We listened to Graceland, some Raffi, Slim Goodbody (all the parts of the body!), and for whatever reason had a blast acting out the parts of Cats. Oh and there was one record that had the song from Snoopy fighting the Red Baron. (We loved the records because you can play them fast like chipmunks or super slow.)

My mom recently sent me a CD of one of our childhood tapes, and I told her I remembered the songs, but didn't remember them being so high. As in the parts with all the kids singing do kind of make your teeth itch.

I'm ignoring the as a kid part, because I think you would think my parents quite boring...hehehehe...
We listen to everything here. I have some Raffi, but haven't listened to it in over a year. I love Sandra Boynton's CDs. They are aimed at kids, but people like The Bacon Brothers, Kevin Kline, and some other really cool people sing them. Huge fan here! I'll have to rip some for ya. We also are big Moby fans. And I am a showtunes girl (particularly Mama Mia lately...hehehehe!)
Oh yeah, the For the Kids CDs are also awesome!!!
