Sometimes, I worry about K.Lo. In particular, I worry that she has chosen the career path of Bag Lady. Never lets me brush her hair, and even when she does, it looks unkempt. Doesn’t like to wear pants. And then there is her habit of collecting. She likes to hoard and distribute many small items amongst a series of bags, buckets, and boxes. All day and all night long, she collects. These items range from toys, such as princesses and bouncy balls, to the Manager’s collection of Pez dispensers, to the cafeteria’s drawer full of plastic forks and spoons. The CEO and I have agreed that whatever career paths our employees choose, we will be supportive, so long as they are safe and happy. And the buckets and bags and unkempt hair make K.Lo happy. But, it’s worrisome nonetheless.

There is a new event, the Trampoline, and I think N.Lo might just be a future star.

N.Lo:

-Professional Charmer, with that crinkly-nosed smile and belly laugh.

-Human Garbage Disposal, with the non-discriminating way he approaches food.

-Products Tester, based on his quest to figure out, with every office supply, How It Works.

K.Lo:

-Greeter, since she's always thrilled to see you. (She will not, however, as per Company Policy, be allowed to work for Wal-Mart.)

-Game show host, perhaps replacing Pat Sajak someday on WHEEL. OF. FORTUNE!!!

-Top Chef, with secret weapon ingredient Play-Doh, which she can make into anything.

The Working Relationship

As N.Lo grows and advances further on his career path, K.Lo becomes increasingly interested in her coworker. Without much encouragement, she has begun to train N.Lo in various work areas, such as the Employee Code of Conduct. New Hires inevitably tend to chew on their office supplies, but K.Lo advises, "No, N.Lo, we don't put that in our mouth." Or, if given an office supply by Management that normally would be off limits to the more destructive Twoville set, she might say, "That's not a toy!" K.Lo has also been sighted teaching N.Lo company culture, holding his hands and singing, "Pat-a-Cake." And when the CEO leaves during the Day Shift for his Other Job, K.Lo reminds him, "Give hugs and kisses to N.Lo, too?"

The Manager is encouraged very much by the further development of this working relationship, and while it will certainly evolve throughout their careers, it is most enjoyable to watch unfold.

K.Lo Chooses a New Career Track

K.Lo's new favorite activity of choice is grooming the Canine Staff. She "cleans" their ears and teeth, and brushes their coats. Management would like to recognize and thank the Canine Staff for their remarkable tolerance of K.Lo's new hobby. Particularly since K.Lo uses whatever's on hand for grooming: weeds out on the grounds, pastry brushes and coffee scoops in the cafeteria. So far, K.Lo has taken great pride in her grooming ventures, and treats her clients with the utmost care.

To celebrate 30 years of employment (a huge career milestone!), I thought it would be fun to compare a few staff photos from today to those of yesteryear, back when I was taking my own trips to Twoville. So far in K.Lo's time with the company, colleagues and clients alike have proclaimed her to take after the CEO. Perhaps she is destined to follow a bit in The Manager's foosteps after all!
